Tanzania Our Country

I have been a resident of the US for about eleven years so far. I have enjoyed each and every aspect I never imagined I would when I was young growing in Gamasara vilage in Tarime District, Mara region, Tanzania. My home vilage is to the North part of Tanzania near the border between Tanzania and Kenya along Lake Victoria. I came to the USA in 1999 to pursue Masters in Management Information Systems- MMIS. I graduated in 2002 from Friends University here in Wichita, KS. After my graduation I managed to secure contract jobs in IT fields as Business Analyst with companies such as HP in Houston, TX and Guidestone Financial Resources in Dallas, TX. And there after I decided to establish Corporate Delivery Service, LLC - CDS based here in Wichita, KS. I have been since managing my business swiftly.
Before coming to the USA for further studies after I had graduated from The University of Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania with Bachelor of Science, majoring inĀ Mathematics and Statistics, I secured a job with the Parliament of Tanzania. I worked there as Clerk Assistant, supervising Parliamentary Commitees in areas such as overseeing committees budgets, minutes, guiding members of parliament in regards to Parliamentary procedures etc.

Tanzania is one of the East African nations, situated on the Far East bordered to the east with Indian Ocean. It became independent in 1961 from the British rule. Our founding father Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere was our first president under a one party rule until 1985 when he voluntarily resigned and continued holding Chairmanship of the ruling party CCM for about ten more year and later on he decided to retire and let others lead. In 1995 multiparty system was introduced in the country. Many parties were established. For the first time in the history of Tanzania which used to be known as Tanganyika experienced not only CCM on the paper ballot but many other parties to mention a few, CHADEMA, NCCR- Mageuzi, DP, TLP, CUF. Early this year one new political party was registered. The new party's name is CCJ. Mwalimu Nyerere lived to witness all this. He guided the country still and had tremendous respect within the country and internationally. The union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar gave birth to The United Republic of Tanzania.
Since the death of our founding father, the country has been in struggle severely when it comes to adhering to principles of equality, good ethical governance. There are supposedly three pillars of leadership to follow and those are Government, Judiciary and Legislature. These institutions are in place but only one has purposely overshadowed the rest and that is the Government. The introduction of Multipatism in 1995 made many believe that it was the beginning of true democracy in the country. This turned out to be the contrary. There were a number of things to be done right at the introduction of multipartism that did not happen/ were blocked by the ruling party for its interest and hence nothing ever went right. Tanzania had been under this party since independence all the resources it had acquired over the years were supposed to be released to the government and have CCM was supposed to start over, afresh like any other new political party, this never happened. Secondly, the constitution of the country was supposed to be annulled or rather significantly changed since when it was established the country was under one party system, as a result significant changes to the constitution would have accommodated a lot of needs to truly easy the transition period to true democracy.

There has been three five year terms general elections since then. The ruling CCM party has undermined every principle necessary to allow true democracy into the country by polarizing the opposition by infiltrating its own members into strong opposition parties in the country. These infiltrated CCM members vied for high ranking leadership positions in the opposition parties only for these parties to realize later that elected leaders were there implanted to polarize those parties. The opposition since has no enough resources to operate strongly, has almost entirely been nonexistent.
CCM party has been in control and has hindered the country's development dramatically. Tanzania has a vast nutritious land for agriculture, has abundant mineral resource, enough sources of water, and has the biggest national reserves in the world such as Serengeti, Selous and Mikumi. The second highest mountain in the world is in Tanzania, The Mount Kilimanjaro. Tanzania is not a land locked country, has harbors like that of Tanga and Dar-Es-Salaam. The government under CCM leadership has made the life of few very rich and the majority's very difficult through corruption. Despite all the God given resources, the country has failed to use them to lift the living standard of its citizen. Tanzania's yearly budget is still dependent on foreign aid 56%. Compared to few other countries that do not have as much resources as Tanzania have been developing tremendously and less dependent on foreign aid, a country like Kenya is only 4% dependent on foreign aid, Rwanda which had genocide devastation, under Paul Kagame the country has been the leading country in Africa as a model of leadership right now.

CHADEMA is one of the strongest opposition parties in the country right now and through its few elected members of Parliament, has revealed a lot of government mismanagement that has brought into light tremendous scandals that has lead to a loss of billions of Tanzania Shillings at the expense of Tanzanian tax payers. The government through its ruling party has tried every means to make sure that the opposition does not flourish. It has used money to bribe citizens to vote to keep them in power; it has made a number of people's life perish.
Tarime Constituency where I come from in 2005 general election for the first time ever the opposition (CHADEMA) won that seat in by election. It was not easy but defiantly the people refused to allow CCM steal or buy them into voting for it. Three years later this CHADEMA Member of Parliament who was doing an excellent job in the house mysteriously was involved in an accident and passed away. This constituted a by-election to replace his seat.
A vivid example of how excessive force by the government was used against Tarime district is a tiny aspect of what I have explained all along in this writing. I invite Oprah Winfrey to view the documentary of that election that happened almost two years ago to really understand what innocent people are going through in Tanzania.

Under these government scarce resources available has been mismanaged through corruption and embezzlement of public funds which has lead to poor social service provision in the country. Women and children under these circumstances have been suffering tremendously. There no enough hospitals and the few that exist do not provide adequately to the society. You will find women and children hospitalized sleeping on the floor. Most women loss their life during giving birth either due to adequate resources or doctors refusing to attend to them simply they do not have money to bribe them for such service. The government has failed to bring basic services to the people as a result many people have migrated to few big cities and people in rural areas are cut out of the basic needs. The government has failed to continuously plan for the future when it comes to infrastructure for the development of the country. Government leaders have put their personal interest before the country's as a result the few international loans or rather grants that the country is granted end up into a few greedy leaders and those loans are carried forward and will continue costing new generation for years to come. Tanzania Revenue collectors most of them are so corrupt such that at the end of the day the amount collected is far less compared to the amount swindled by individuals. A few individuals like me who have managed to go abroad they have either sworn not to go back or given up their country due to the way the government is handling the country. People literary go day by day without knowing what will be their next meal and most of the time they miss meals. Given what we have as a country I personally do not see how we could reach where we are as a country. It is so humiliating but I for one still love this country and I am in the process of going back. I appeal to international intervention for rescue. I believe that I have to impact life wherever in the world and in doing so I should start at home. Please, help me to bring about such impact in several different ways possible after all we are God's creation and the majority of Tanzanians that are under oppression deserve a chance like any other persons that are free of oppression.

There is more to share in order to bring to light of how people on the other side of the world struggle to survive and others pray to one day to be able to see mature democracy such as the one we see in the USA come to their rescue. Especially during this year there will be a general election whereby the country will be electing its president, members of Parliament and other leaders. All this is going to happen in October, 2010. I am going to contest for Tarime Constituency Member of Parliament through CHADEMA Party. I hope by God's will that for once the world is made aware of what is transpiring in Tanzania through media abroad and in the country. You need to see the documentary to realize the extent of Tanzania Government abuse of power to its people. I am willing to share it with the world through Oprah Winfrey's Show. I know I may be risking my life by doing so, but I know that it is through individual sacrifice that sometimes the life of the majority comes into rescue. Thank you for reading.
